Currently watching – Welcome II the Terrordrome, directed by Ngozi Onwurah, 1995. Born in 1966, Onwurah is a British-Nigerian filmmaker. This sci-fi film of racial strife in an Afrofuturist dystopia was the first film by a black woman theatrically distributed in Britain.
Currently watching – Grand Budapest Hotel, directed by Wes Anderson, 2014. Born in 1969, Anderson is an American filmmaker and a modern superstar auteur.
Currently watching – Werewolf, directed by Ashley McKenzie, 2016. McKenzie is an award-winning Canadian filmmaker. This film depicts the lives of two methadone addicts in Nova Scotia.
Currently watching – And Nothing Happened, directed by Naima Ramos-Chapman. Ramos-Chapman is a young American interdisciplinary artist. This is a short film, which I’m trying to watch more of.
Currently watching – 2046, directed by Wong Kar-wai, 2004. This is a quasi-sequel to In the Mood for Love, sort of like Wong had a dream about the first film. But when I first watched these movies, I did so closely together.
Currently watching – The Adventures of Prince Achmed, directed by Lotte Reiniger, 1926. Born in 1899, Charlotte “Lotte” Reiniger was a German film director and animation pioneer. This film, inspired by a story from 1,001 Nights, is widely considered the oldest surviving feature-length animation.
